Building a Successful Blog

I started doing a little research, and I am so intrigued by some of the people who have started successful blogs. I read from one woman this morning who just one day decided to start a blog and within a few months she had so much traffic she couldn't even respond to people anymore. How in the world do you make something like that happen? I'm no business person, I'm hardly tech savvy, but I love to write. If I could write and make it my living, that's what I'd be doing. I'm convinced that I WILL write a book one day. So where do you start?

Everyone has a blog these days it seems. How do I make mine something that people will want to read, without compromising the things that interest me to write about?

My goodness I'm working in the marketing world now. I think I should know a thing or two about utilizing social media, getting followers, and getting my name out there.

Well here's to learning and lots of writing.

I've been asking myself the same question lately because I, too, LOVE to write but have made very little progress in blogging for over a year... I am inspired by bloggers with successful blogs! (Have you heard of thepioneerwoman.com? I think her's is my favorite.) My youth pastor told me to start writing for OTHER people... I've checked out some blogs for women in ministry or teenage girls or online magazines and such, and you can apply to be a writer for most of them. You just have to start by becoming apart of the community and commenting on posts/articles. So that's one thing to check it - will help with getting your name out there and start building up your resume. (I'd really like to write a book someday, too. :) ) My yp also suggested making a fb page for my writing or buying an actual website (rather than using blogspot) or something like that. Also - what I'm doing this summer is just being INTENTIONAL about writing consistently. Even if I don't know what to write about or what it will sound like or I feel insecure because I don't think anybody will read it anyways... I just write because I love it. Well... those are my thoughts. I hope they help give you some ideas. :)

Kailene I've become so fascinated by reading people's success stories! I read several this morning of people just waking up one day and deciding, oh I wanna start a blog, and a few months down the road had so much traffic they couldn't keep up anymore. Wow! I read lots of advice from the popular bloggers, one of my favs I read today was here: http://bit.ly/iXUz3N

I definitely have a lot to learn, but it sounds so exciting, just writing for a living. Others have done it, so it's possible! I can see myself really getting into mommy focused blogging (which I'm finding there is a ton of already!) But thanks for posting th is advice. If you become a super successful blogger I'll come work for you as a VA http://simplemom.net/virtual-assistant/

Lol thanks Kailene :-)
